William McDaniel graduated with a degree in Economics from the University of California (Berkeley) in 1972. He received his law degree in 1976 from the University of Oregon, and immediately began practicing law in Coos Bay as an associate with the law firm of Newhouse, Foss, Whitty & Roess in 1976. That law firm, which was originally established in 1880 by J. W. Bennett, and over the years included (among others) Joseph McKeown, T. G. Bennett Swanton, Thomas T. Tankerville Bennett, Thomas T. Bennett, Bennett Swanton, Lawrence A. Liljeqvist, Joseph McKeown, Andy Newhouse, Wally Johansen (one of the starting Oregon Tall Firs when the 1939 basketball team won the NCAA basketball championship), John Foss, John Whitty, Paul Roess, Jon Littlefield, Mike Bodkin, and Andy Combs. 137 years after the firm began, Mr. McDaniel is the final member. He loves the history of the firm, and is proud to have been a part of it.
